Great 5 Disk Carosel Player
I was surprised how little user information was available on the web about 5 disk carousel changers.

I tried several higher end players (including Rotel, Denon, Sony, Onkyo/Integra and Marantz*) but I couldn't get past the extremely long time it took to switch tracks between disks while in random/shuffle mode (15 to 20 seconds). The 17 year changer I was replacing could change tracks on different disks in 8 to 10 seconds (measured from the end of one song to the start of another on a different disk).

Yamaha got it right with the CDC-697. It matched the track change speed of my 17 year old changer. If you regularly listen to music in random/shuffle mode, this CD changer is the only one out there (in 2008) that can change tracks on different disks within a reasonable time (8-10 seconds vs 15-20 seconds). Nothing else I tried out there that could do that.

Yamaha also seems to have the best version of the disk exchange feature. All the players I tried...

Objective review of the Yamaha CD player
Before buying the Yamaha 5-disc CD player, I did a comprehensive analysis of all currently available products. It included the players made by Denon, Onkyo, Teac and Sony among others, as well as DVD players that can also play CD's. I wanted a high quality player to work well with a stereo system including large JBL studio monitor speakers, a high-power integrated amplifier, and a direct drive Technics turntable. I had no interest in playing DVD's, only in good quality audio CD's, so I eliminated from consideration many products which are basically DVD players. I found out that most multi-disc CD players compromise their technical specifications compared with the audiophile-quality single-disc CD players, with Yamaha CDC-697 looking better than the others, possibly because it is optimized for playing CD's only, while the Denons and Onkyos also play compressed audio files like MP3 and WMA.
Any product that attempts to do too many things at once, usually does not do anything...
Good unit but one crazy problem with power cable
This is a solid unit but I had to discuss a problem with the power cable that I received with the unit. The end of the cable that hooks into the back of the player would not sit flush with the hole it hooks into (FYI if you consult the manual some versions of this unit do not have this). As soon as I plugged it in I thought the cable didn't seem to fit. Then the player would not turn on. I was required to finally hold the power cable with my hand so it would stay flush and keep juice to the machine going. I gave up and went to my basement and got out a similar power cable which worked perfectly. This is a crazy problem and I don't know who is at blame but it sent me for a loop. I docked the review of this unit heavily for such a hassle.

As for the machine it works great and helps me listen to many more cds continuously than a single disc player. It changes discs really fast and keeps the tunes flowing. You can also change discs while one is playing which is nice.

Good Sound for the money
Very good sound for a "Mini Shelf" system but then, it is not very small so make sure you have room and able to hold 146 pounds. The Bass boost is in deed heavy bass and vibrates things (probably too good for late hours in most places). Sound is still pretty good without bass boost with a little extra volume. I think Sony needs to make a half bass boost which probably would be the best sound on many occassions.
Like the Ipod input for my use and also so friends caneasily bring and play music they like. It looks "cool" but not sophistcated, Not the greatest sound
but it is good and for the price, I have no regrets.

Big Bang For the $$$$$$$
I bought this stereo because I want to "feel", as well as hear my music.I wanted a deep, thumping bass that will shake and rattle the windows.This is it!!!
I have tested this unit playing CCR,,the Rolling Stones,Bad Company,Beatles,and Pink Floyd,all kinds of great "classic rock".I've played alot of Waylon Jennings,Merle Haggard,and Hank Jr.-to name a few.Massive thumping bass!!!Pictures actually fall of the wall with this awesome system.This is like having a PA system in your home...and as prior revewiers have mentioned,you might have to live in fear that your neighbors might call the cops for disrupting the peace--if there is really such a law.
My only gripe is that in the owners manual it states that it is not IPHONE compatible. But it accepts IPODS. Bonus:Phono Inputs!!!!.......Listen to your old record albums with rich,deep bass!!!!I'm not kidding---my record collection is being brought back to life because of this system.It's not the most attractive piece of...
Absolute Love
I wanted a nice system for my sewing room and since it's in a place that is hard to reach I also wanted to be able to put on more than 1 CD at a time. I absolutely love this system. The only thing that would be better, is if I were able to fully operate the iPod with the remote.

I'm looking forwards to many years of listening pleasure.

An excellent product for most people
My faithful stereo of nearly 15 years bit the dust and I started looking for something the right size, with a CD changer. My old stereo had a 5 CD changer and this one only holds 4, one in the main unit and three in the add-on changer, but it was the best I could find in a good size. It has some excellent points and some that I don't really like, so research before you buy. First, the issue of clarity/sound. This little guy has great sound and the clarity is mind-boggling, but this is, to my mind, a unit that was first designed for people who listen to classical music and other music styles where the sound of each individual instrument is important. This unit does that incredibly well, especially with earphones. The volume is great unless you're in a gigantic room (and it will still get pretty loud)and the sound, on any type of music, is good. However, if you like rattle-the-windows percussion where the drums are beating your heart for you, this may not be your best choice. I...

bad CD changer
Just received my order but only the Multi-CD Changer arrived instead of the whole Music system set. Moreover, the CD changer box was also opened although the actual shipping carton was intact. So disappointed! BE AWARE though that the main Music System is the newest and latest model (Bose Music System III) . . . BUT . . . the 3-CD Multi-CD Changer is the old original one. I feel that this is a trick. I thought both parts are the latest III versions!

My first Bose purchase was in Dec 2011 (original Music System with original Multi-CD Changer). The CD changer of that set made noise as it changed CDs and so many complained about their CDs getting stuck. Plus that system set completely went dead on me after 2 weeks. All lights were lit, Music system appeared to be responding to the remote control but no sound was coming out at all. BEAUTIFUL SOUND
I like how compact the two pieces are - wave radio with one CD and multi- CD changer with space for 3 CD's. They multl-cd changer fits nicely under the wave radio. Love the Titanium Silver color - very unobtrusive. Had to connect antennae in order to get all stations (you have to buy the antennae).

I love Jazz and classical music. The Wave radio has one CD and the multi-cd changer holds 3 CD's. Music plays all day, changing from one CD to another. Can change CD's by using remote control 'eject' button (have the larger remote that lights up, love it for clarity of seeing and using all options).

One negative - when changing from one CD to another, you hear a light clattering noise; you would think Bose would come up with a quiet changer, but not yet. The music sounds beautiful but doesn't fill several rooms; it fills a couple open rooms, such as family room opening up to a living/dining room. I asked if there were wireless speakers available so I could hear...
