suprising sound in a small package
when i received the product i unboxed it and looked everything over, the control cabinet has a very nice finish on it and the controls on the face respond to very slight inputs, the satellite speakers all come pre-wired with a RCA style plug and a length of wire, and the remote works quite well. a small instruction book/foldout is included that contains a quick start guide as well as a description of the controls on the remote. setting up the unit was fairly straightforward, each speaker has its own plug on the back of the control unit. there are 2 available inputs for the system, a 3.5mm headphone jack to RCA, and a set of RCA's for each channel(if your audio source has audio outputs for 5.1 surround). simply plug the speakers into the control unit, place the speakers, and choose an input type, and you are ready to go.

the first test i did was to plug in only the Left and Right front speakers and set the unit in 2.1 mode using the remote, i chose to use the 3.5MM headphone...

Bangin'... after you wait a while!
When i first opened my $200 (i bought them early when they were only 200 then they uped it to 250) speakers i thought the sound would be amazing. WEll the bass was great but the satelites weren't "heavenly". Then i went online and found out that you need to break in new speakers for 20 hours to get best performance. So everyday when i left for work i started leaving them on until i hit 20 hours. I put on a good song and it was awesome. The sattelites were unbelieveable and the bass was even more great. So this really woke the lion. One little thing that annoys me, The sattelite speakers hiss a little when no music is on but nothing nerve racking. All i do Is just hit the snazzy mute (touch sensitive) and its the hissing is gone, nothing to not buy them over. So i absolutely love mine and bose surely held up its name. Great for music and works ok for games but go for 5.1 if you're into hard gaming and movies. One more thing these speakers aren't the best on hard...

Excellent Speaker System
I bought these speakers a few weeks ago and like them more and more every day. The first thing I noticed when I hooked them up was that they are very loud. After that initial reaction I felt as if there was a lack of good mid-range, shrill highs and overly heavy bass. I have since managed to tweak things to my liking and I have to say these speakers are awesome. The following is a list of things that worked for me to help get things sounding right:

* Point the speakers away from you, like they suggest in the manual. I have mine about pointed about 30-45 degrees outward. This will keep your sound stage wide and cut down on the tin-like sounding highs

* Don't be afraid to turn down the bass. I have my acoustimass module under my desk and against the wall so it has a lot of surfaces to bounce off of. This increases the bass response. I have the bass dial up only about 1/4 of the way and I find that to be about the right level. The bass still thumps when you listen to 50 Cent but it...
Pretty good speaker, TERRIBLE price/performance ratio
Whenever I read something like the following oft-repeated mantra from Dallas Electronics Fan:

"No highs, no lows (must be Bose!)"

I am reminded that there is a cadre of Bose haters out there possessed with as fervent a religious fanaticism as the Bose lovers.

Part of the problem is that speaker manufacturers are clearly targeting their products at the gaming market. They assume that everyone wants to be immersed from all 7.1 sides in explosions accompanied by heavy metal thrash music. Small 2.1 systems are treated as cheap throw-away afterthoughts - "shovelware" tossed in the box with every low-ball Dell and eMachines.

To Bose's credit, it appears that Bose actually considers the Companion 3 to be a serious product aimed at a different target than juvenile gamers. These speakers sound more pleasing with music (especially classical music or jazz) at low-to-medium volume than most of the future landfill being sold (or given away in computer...

Sound great at first but distort after about 4 months.
I originally would give this system 5 stars based on the fact that it would drastically outperform other systems in this price range. The reason for the 3 stars is due to the fact that after several months of use at moderate listening levels that a nasty distortion started to form coming from the left and right speakers. Turns out that the tweeters are not tweeters at all! They are a thick stamped aluminum foil! These were the cause of the terrible distortion! They are only held in place with a little glue and a piece of tape, no wonder they distorted! The fronts are only glued in by four pegs so after a while of use you can expect distortion from the cabinets themselves at high volumes. Now to the full range 2" drivers; These drivers were great for the first couple months, then I began noticing my listening experience was growing in to fatigue. I do not blast these speakers and only raise the volume moderately during movies. I began noticing the 2000 - 6000 KHz range was really...

amazing for the buck
these monitors blew me away, for so little $$$ and space they pack a perfect amount of sound. im starting my own home studio and these are doing the job greatly. the orange and black looks sick and the bass/treble control lets you custom the sound making sure you dont overdrive the tone. if you a little bump for little bucks. get this.

Hard to beat for price
Ok so I will start off with pros
Pros:
great sound
easy to connect (I mean easy my 2 year old niece did it on her own)
loud and clear
variable bass so you can find the sound you like
cool blue light
compact
wall mount

I have waited a couple of days to do my review trying to come up with something bad to say... but for the price this is well worth the money. Possibly more. My biggest issue is it does not have a remote, but for the price I think I would be asking for to much.

Amazing sound and customer service
I was looking for a set of speakers that would be easy to travel between my dorm, apartment and work. These speakers were exactly what I needed. Great quality sound and they are quite compact. The light on the front is not very bothersome at all and can be covered if using at night.

When I had gotten my speaker system, the left speaker had troubles connecting. The jack was a little bent and did not fit right making the sound distorted. I contacted the company and within 2 days of my complaints they had sent me a brand new speaker and apologized. They were quick and friendly with it not asking to see the speaker or making me send that one back. It was good quality service.

The speakers are all interconnected through wires so it isn't surround sound but the quality is way better than my past speakers. There is bas and volume control which is nice. Most computer speakers dont have bass control making them sound odd when playing certain types of music.

I love my sound player it has the right amount of sound i want and like. I'm very satisfied but only buy if you want something not loud or to low just right but overall thumbs up.

Damn good for gaming
I was using this to play planet side 2. And I littirally felt I was In world war 2. The manual is very helpful and isn't a peice of (insert word here) like most manuals. It also came with wall mounts which made me very happy.

And If you are worried about cord length 2 of the speakers have REALLY long cords and the other ones also have long cords
Music sounds amazing too
Its got a thing you can plug into phones iPods computers
and its got a thing that plugs into DVD players
If you can't figure out how to set it from 2.1 to 5.1 when plugged into computers make sure its on AUX and PRO
It has a usb slot and a SD/MMC card slot
One of the coolest features is that with the remote you can actually adjust EACH SPEAKERS VOLUME SEPARATELY :D
The remote takes triple AAA battery's and those are pretty cheap to get
The max volume is 60
The Max db of the sub-woofer is 10 minimum -10
There is a ton of other features to I haven't figured out...

Awesome!
Placed my order on Wednesday got it Thursday. Super impressed with the company! Works great, it was simple to set up. Love the aux cord to plug my ipod into. The remote is super handy. Great sound for the price I paid. Highly recommend!!!!!
Taking Chances
Immediately after hooking up the front and rear left spekers started to short out. Found out internal board was bad. Also does not have optical or coaxial in. Only analog left and right inputs and 5 channel analog inputs. If they were more reliable in their circuit board build quality then it wouldn't be too shabby for the price.

Its better than a lot expensives
These speakers are something incredible. They re much better than many more expensive speakers in the market.
Pros:
* Clear sound, powerful, with good definition.
* You can set the speaker volume independently.
* Remote Control.
* 5.1 + RCA inputs + Auxiliar input (Left and Right)
* The speakers do not distort.
* A powerful subwoofer with very good low.
Cons:

* Short cord (the cable from the speakers left, right and center are not more than 5 feet and the back of no more than 7').
* Does not have Coaxial or Optical input for receiving a digital signal.

This is an excellent speakers systems. I have it installed on a 28 mts2 family room and the sound is really big. The subwoofer make vibrate the glass accessories of the room. It has more quality than many of the most expensive equipment on the market. Now, I have to buy a signal converter stereo to 5.1 surround to get you maximum advantage of this set of speakers...

Surprised Me, in two ways
Amazing sound quality. Only down side is that the speaker wires are pre connected and cannot be customized without splicing. Read some reviews that said it needed an amp/receiver. Not true at all it had incredibly loud potential. Haven't been able to turn it up past 40 (it goes to 60) without it hurting my ears/rumbling the foundation of my house. Comes with a digital audio 1/8 inch jack to RCA cable, once again not too long. Minor things. The positives highly outweigh the negatives (not too many of those) had a Yamaha system that cost three times as much and was 1/2 the quality. I recommend highly.

Update 11/01/2011 Speaker system has major flaws I overlooked initially:

1) Does not have the ability to power off, only to remain on standby, causing it to flash and annoy me in a dark room. This also caused it to overheat and malfunction, after one week of owning this system it no longer works, I can only faintly hear any noise with it turned all the way up...
Surround sound review
I bought this surround sound to go with the new flat screen TV I bought for my husband for Christmas. We put this in our finished room in the basement. We had been planning on this ever since we bought this house three years ago. When I hooked up this surround sound, which was very easy to do because all the cords were there, I turned on the television and followed the directions that came with the surround sound and it was unbelievable. One of the things I liked about it the most was the fact that you could change the volume on the speakers independently which I couldn't do on my system upstairs. The other thing I liked was the way you could change where the sound came from ( front, rear, or everwhere ). I guess the only drawback that I really found with the system was with the speakes that go behind your head, not because there was anything wrong with them, but they just do not have enough speaker wire to really go anywhere, if they had more wire so you could hand them up or at...
