All TVs should sound this good
I was looking for a sound system for our 32" Samsung LCD TV to provide a more cinema-like experience for movie viewing. We live in a small apartment in NYC, and I didn't want a traditional 5:1 surround system with speakers jammed in all corners, wires, etc. I got excited when I saw the various soundbars offered by various brands, but they all stretched far longer than I wanted to deal with and would have had to have been wall mounted, another thing I wanted to avoid. So after a bit of searching I ran across a review that placed three ZVOX systems at the top of their ranges. Which led to further research on the ZVOX site and I found the perfect solution in the 320: a soundbar in a pedestal that the TV sits on, and which doesn't extend off the edges of the table! Apparently the 320 is a relatively new offering, replacing the older, boxier 325, which seems to have received high marks. So I gave it a chance and it arrived yesterday. Second Zvox sound system purchased.
I now own two Zvox systems. The first was the 580 model for my 46 inch Sony TV and I was so impressed with it that I also purchased this 320 model for the bedroom to go below a 32 inch TV. The truth is some people want better sound out of their TV, but can't be bothered with the hassle and complication of setting up a home theater system to complement a great TV picture with lousy built in speakers, so they either make do, spend money on something with wires and speakers all over the house, find a soundbar or go in the Zvox direction. Priority one was to have a no hassle installation. After turning the built in Tv speakers off and connecting the Zvox to the TV using the optical cable, I was pretty much good to go. The only thing left to do was program the cable company's remote to work with the Zvox and I was up and running in 5 minutes.

Since I'm speaking for the 320 model and not the 580 model, my first concern was that the three smaller speakers on the 320 wouldn't be...
Amazing
I wont get into a long and detailed description of this product other than to say I'm very particular about the quality of my electronics and this product ranks among the very best peices I've ever purchased. I live in a relatively small condo in the NYC area and space (and asthetics) is definitely a priority. The sound and build quality of this piece is extraordinary, to say the least. Forget about cumbersome multi piece units, wires, and speaker placement of some of these other surround systems. This one piece has it all. Four years ago I spent twice as much on a Bose Wave radio to serve the very same function as the ZVOX 320 is serving today (in a different room). This is a truly amazing sound bar. The sound is incredible. You wont miss a thing, and when connected to the digital optical connection, it will blow you away. I HIGHLY recommend this as an alternative to a multi piece 3.1 or 5.1 system. The set up is dummy-proof, and programming your universal cable remote literally...

ZVOX 420 is a great way to go.
I got the ZVOX 420 this week!

The 420 is nicely boxed, with a minimum of extra packaging. It's very easy to unbox, and the "quick setup" brochure comes on top and outside the packaging. Best part: there's no "extended setup," the setup really is so simple a child could do it.

After unboxing the 420 I found it came with a remote (no batteries, needed two AAs), the 420 itself, an optical sound cable, and a cable to plug an MP3 player into the 420's headphone jack. The 420 comes with a laptop sized power brick, which uses a standard PC power cable. There are additional directions with it to describe the different surround sound options (3 settings) and explain how to program the 420 to obey your remote of choice.

The enclosure is MDF, mostly flattish-black, has a black front metal grill, and nice and solid. There is one port, rear firing, for the bass. It has 4 round feet with plastic "footies" to stand on and not scratch whatever surface you set this...

Not perfect, but pretty darn good
I've been reading glowing reviews of ZVOX "sound bars" for several years and finally took the plunge last week by purchasing the model 420. I was in the market for an inexpensive way to improve my 37" Sony's poor sound on normal TV viewing, as well as giving me something of a home theater experience while watching DVD's. After a week of getting used to the 420 and playing around with the various settings I here to say...it's a keeper, although nothing close to a 5.1 set-up.

The 420 is basically 5 small front facing drivers and a down firing sub enclosed in an attractive, unobtrusive and solidly built wooden case. The unit is much deeper than a normal sound bar (it's closer to a pizza box than a sound bar) so if you're considering it, make sure you have the room. The front drivers are completely hidden, and the LED display, which lights up the volume and other settings, is only visible while making adjustments - in other words, you'll soon forget the 420 is even there...
It Works for Me!
I really can't add anything beyond what has been said by previous reviewers. You open the nicely packaged box, follow the 3-4 step setup process and you are done.

The training of my Uverse remote was a snap--no looking up strange numbers, just press the respective buttons on command and this box learns the settings--one minute at most.

I bought this because the dialog from my Sharp Aquos was frequently "mushy", maybe due to my advancing age. The ZVOX has a special setting for dialog emphasis which solved my problem.

The box is bigger than I had anticipated but it fits quite nicely under our 42" LCD.

Only The Best
For a while now hubby and I have been talking about getting a system for our living room. We never feel like we have that great of a sound system to compliment our HDTV, and sometimes it seems as though these new TV's do not have as good speakers as the old box TV's did. Since our family plays a lot of video games and watches a lot of movies, we are in need of great sound effects to fill our room.

The ZVOX 220 is truly a staple of just how far technology has evolved when upgrading you sound system. Five years ago, it would have cost hundreds more to achieve the rich and satisfying, ambient sounds that this marvelous little box offers. Very happy with the sound and less clutter.
I had been wanting to get rid of the clutter of extra speakers and wires from the living room for a long time. I live in an average sized apartment in the NYC area and like a clean minimal space. I also like good sound but not overwhelming bass heavy room rattling sound. The ZVOX 220 perfectly fit my needs. It is good looking and unobtrusive on the shelf underneath the flat screen television. It has a nice full sound with either video or music and is plug and play easy to set up. The remote is simple and functional in a good way. The dialog enhance feature is great.

At first it sounded muffled but realized I needed to adjust a couple of things which might help others:

1) The sound on my TV and cable box were set to a "narrow" range which accounted for the muffled sound. Make sure to set the range to "Normal" or "Wide". I also set it to Dolby. The sound was perfect afterwards
2) There were minor ground loop problems with the cable box, but it was fixed using...
Zvox 220 Great sound and features
I upgraded from a Zvox 325 which is the same as the 220 but older model.

Pro's,
The sound is much clearer and the surround sound seems to be better than the 325, It now has optical and coaxial digital input and a nice lighted display. The new remote control has all the option on it and I love the Output Leveling feature for loud commercials. Has great volume if you like it loud. I am happy I upgraded to the 220 so I could use the optical input and all the new features, they made good improvements and would recommend this unit it sounds great.

Con's
They moved the base speaker or subwoofer from inside the cabinet to the bottom of the unit and it is a smaller cabinet so the base is not very deep or loud on the 220, I have the base turned as high as it goes and treble setting on 0 the base is OK for me. The subwoofer on my 325 was very deep and loud it would vibrate the TV cabinet and floor if you turned the base up, so if you like a deep, floor...
