Onkyo CS-445 CD Receiver System
The CS-445 offers a carefully considered balance of performance, price, and practicality. Thanks to its compact size, this versatile audio mini system can be set up virtually anywhere in the home. Driving the system is a combined CD-receiver that handles regular CDs as well as recordable CDs encoded with compressed audio files. Playback options are further expanded by a built-in iPhone/iPod dock that lets you hook up and recharge your device. Naturally, given Onkyo’s enviable track record in home audio, the processing and amplification circuitry are second to none. Completing the system are two precision-crafted bookshelf speakers featuring Onkyo’s proprietary OMF diaphragms.Playback Format: CD, CD-R, CD-RW, CD-audio, MP3, and WMA files.
With so many on offer these days, it is great to have a name you can trust. This item is certainly that and will be a perfect buy. The distributor have added some great touches and this equals great value.

If you know what you're looking for, you're in luck
The key to being truly satisfied with this stereo is first knowing what you want from it. If you're looking for a full surround solution, this isn't it. If you're looking for a simple stereo with wall-trembling bass, keep moving. If, however, you're looking for a clean sound to enjoy in a single room, you're in the right product page.

I bought this strictly for music listening; not as part of a home theatre set up. As you know by now, all decent speakers should be allowed a burn-in period before being judged for their merit. And the included speakers on this unit are no exception. That said, though, these sound crisp (not sharp) and deep (not boomy), which fits the receiver's output optimally.

I loved the sound straight away. And after about 10 minutes using the stereo, I was reminded again why Onkyo doesn't run in the same circles as Sony, Panasonic, Sharp, and many of the other disposable consumer electronics manufacturers. It's all better here...

Very nice stereo at a great price
I got this for my mom, who had been looking for a stereo for about two years. She was looking for specific features that are a little hard to find in modern systems. It needed to be a compact shelf system with a timer and sleep function. It needed to be capable of playing cassette tapes or have a line-in that could be connected to a tape player. It needed to have enough volume that she could hear it from different rooms as she moved around her house, and it needed to be able to pick up her favorite FM station which does not have a strong signal. And, lastly, she wanted a unit that could be operated from the front panel, as she doesn't much care for remote controls. This unit mostly fit the bill and was on sale for under $300 at Amazon. It's sound quality and volume are very good, as is it's FM radio reception. Most of the basic functions can be accessed from the front panel (except for the timer and radio tuner--there are pre-set station buttons on the front panel, but they...
Excellent value for the money
Pros:
- Build quality, materials and finish
- Clarity of sound
- Subwoofer output
- Ability to "drive" your Ipod with the remote.

Cons:
- Audio jack is for earphones only. You cannot use it as an auxiliary input.
- To hook up an external device (such as a computer), you need a 3.5mm to RCA stereo cable. You can get one from Amazon: Mediabridge - 3.5mm Male To (2) RCA Stereo Audio Cable - (12 Feet) [New design accomodates smartphone / mp3 cases]
- No USB input. It is a shame, knowing that the CS445 for the european market has it.

About me:
I am not a musician, just a music lover.
I needed a stereo for my 900 sq.ft apartment.
I did a lot of research before buying this Onkyo system.
At first I was considering the cheaper Sony CMTMX500I.
I tried it at Best Buy and was not satisfied. It did not sound good and it looked very cheap.
I...
