Introducing an affordable speaker set that will bring a deeper dimension to your movies, games, and music. Comprising a powered subwoofer, two-way front and center speakers, and full-range satellites-all gloss-finished-the SKS-HT690 delivers lifelike surround sound with finesse. Here, style is backed by serious substance. Subtle front-on curves are complemented by a rounded rear section that counteracts unwanted standing waves. Cradle one of these speakers in your palm and you'll feel a reassuring heft. Reason? It's Onkyo's newly developed high-density resin, which provides superb rigidity and resistance to vibration. The down-firing subwoofer, meanwhile, employs a 10 (25 cm) cone to deliver a tight and balanced low-end.
With so many on offer these days, it is great to have a name you can trust. This item is certainly that and will be a perfect buy. The distributor have added some great touches and this equals great value.

Not for audiophiles, but a steal for ave. Joe on a budget
Since there is no review of these speakers anywhere on the internet I feel some added responsibility to put one up.
I am no CNET, but here we go:
The Good:
They look high end with a high gloss piano-black finish. Surprisingly powerful for the size. Music sounds good.... not just for movies.
The Bad:
Closed boxes and the connections are push terminal, which seems kind of low end. I had trouble getting my large speaker wires into the terminal. The center speaker is a bit underwhelming, but blends well if the front speakers are close enough.
The bottom line:
If you want a great bang for your buck and are on a serious budget, then these are a deal. MSRP at 450 puts them up against "The Pioneer SP-PK21BS" and the "Engery Take Classic 5.1", which is some stiff competition in the budget space (probably why they lowered the price). I would not pay $450 for these speakers simply for the connections and being closed...

Excellent set of speakers
When I say "execellent", I am comparing it with similarly priced speakers. Please do not compare this with $250 or $500 speakers and complain that this is not good enough. There is no tweeter in the rear speakers and I did not miss it because the the front side and center speakers produce sufficient high frequencies. The Woofer is 10" and is quite loud.
Fills the room nicely
Own a TX-SR503 Onkyo Receiver. Picked up these speakers as its mate. Had a Polk Audio/Cerwin Vega hybrid system before. My den is 15x25 with my about viewing area about 12-14 feet from my flat screen. This 5.1 speaker system fills the room nicely. The sub box was larger than I thought it would be, but being a 10" sub it works nicely. The center channel is a little smaller than I would have expected, given size of the sub. It is crisp and has good sound, lacks maybe a little of the middle low range a larger mid channel would deliver.
All in all a very good speaker system for the buy. Music and video both play nicely. It is a definite upgrade and good for those on a budget. Their sound has added to my audio experience.
