Perfect solution for any bedroom or small room!!!
I wanted to improve the sound of my bedroom Panasonic LCD TV, so I started to look into several solutions like Audioengine A2, A5+, and many others micro systems or active speakers. Then I found that Denon released this micro system only two weeks ago as a replacement of the Denon DM38S (Award winning for two years). So with no regrets I placed the order via Amazon (only one was in stock) and I got it yesterday. No words to describe how amazing this little micro system sounds. I have my DirecTV HD DVR and an Apple TV hooked up to my TV via HDMI, so just an optical cable from my TV into the Denon DM39S do the job. Did I say how Awesome this little thing sounds??? 100% recommended!!!

Great mini stereo
We bought this to replace an IPod docking station and a separate CD player that was part of a clock radio in our kitchen. These are both obviously lower end sound quality. The Denon is a step function improvement and sounds very good. I have been more than happy with the sound from the single CD player, IPod and IPhone input via the USB connection on the face, as well as the over the air FM signals (which sound as good as FM signals can sound).
The unit arrived promptly. It was double boxed in strong containers, and foam packed in the innermost box. Set up was very easy. The stereo wires are pre-stripped on the end and attach to the speakers and amp via screw type connectors. There are batteries for the remote. The manual was not needed but comes on a CD that you can access on a PC. We set it up in a few minutes.
It is probably overkill for a kitchen, but that seems to be where everybody ends up. It is also not too big for our counter. We are using it...
Simply the best compact stereo available, period.
The D-M39 is in a league of its own as the best compact stereo system on the market. Having owned a D-M37, the new unit is a nice upgrade. The speakers give a little more definition and more natural vocals. The CD player gives even greater articulation. Imaging and articulation of complex passages are in league with $2,000 systems.
The speakers are particularly flexible. Denon provides foam phase plugs if they are placed too close to the wall for optimum resulting in boomy / muddy bass. I was skeptical of these as probably just cutting the bass. However they perfectly cut the boominess while adding to the extension of truly deep bass.
Although the included speakers are remarkable for their size, the amplifier is capable of driving larger bookshelf speakers such as the worthy B&W 685 to excellent effect. (Be sure to defeat the Dynamic Sound which is matched to the Denon speakers.)
Denon's DM series remains the sole owner of this category now...
