Not ready for prime time
I bought this unit directly from Pioneer mainly for all the features it had crammed into it. iPod/iPhone slide out dock, Bluetooth for using an iPad or iPhone wirelessly, Internet radio, Air Jam, and wired or wireless connectivity for a network DLNA drive to stream gobs of music from your own files. With so many features could something go wrong? Well yes it can. The networking part of this unit is very buggy. It will play music files for a while but then "freeze up" when changing songs in a playlist. There is no telling when this will happen. Maybe the 4th song, maybe the 15th song. When it does this the whole system freezes and must be rebooted from the beginning. Sometimes shut down takes 2 tries and 5 minutes of time. I have tried all sorts of work around scenarios. I checked by network drive, all CAT 5E cables and connections are good. Everything else on my home network works flawlessly.

Great dock and Airplay/Bluetooth speaker
I already have a Samsung DA-E750, and wanted something similar for our summer house, but did not want to spend another $600. When I saw the Pioneer on Amazon at the amazingly low price, I immediately went ahead and ordered it. There were only a couple of reviews on Amazon, and a few other reviews here and there, mostly negative. However for the throw-away price I really did not see any down side, if nothing else I would just use it as an iPod dock.
When the Pioneer unit showed up, the first thing that I was impressed by was the overall sleek look which blended great with the rest of our AV system (including a Pioneer Elite Kuro flatscreen). I had no problem with either hooking it up to the WiFi network or connecting to my iPhone through Bluetooth. I have also had no problems playing music through AirPlay and in fact it has been better than my Samsung with less dropouts. Good desktop ipod speaker dock
For the current price at Amazon, this Pio Elite ipod dock speaker will justify the cost if you only need a speaker ipod dock to listen to MOG or Spotify as your desktop unit. The bluetooth feature is nice without any ugly cables hanging on your desk. FM. receiption is okay where I live. No complaints with these two features. I do not need Internet Acess or Internet radio, so I would not comment on these features.
I am a big Pio Elite fan when come to home theater AVR however the x-smc 4k sound quality dissapointed me at the first try. To me, it sounds dry and grainy. Hopefully after a break in period, the speakers will settle for smoother sound.
All in all, if you need a bluetooth ipod speakers for less than $170.00, the X-SMC 4 k is not a bad deal. My near field listening with the volume control between 16 to 18 dial that did not distort as some reviewers claimed at louder volume .
