An excellent decision...
After reading through the net and asking a lot of people to make the best selection possible for a home theater system (my first one) with a US$700-1000 budget, finally decided to get this Yamaha YHT-797 home theater. I had piping already in the walls (I put them when I built my house, thinking in this), so I just had to run the speakers'cables (I got 100 ft of monster cable, even this equipment comes with cable), install the speakers on the wall (lot of drilling but it was worth it), and connect everything (easy to do, following the instruccions and labels). When all set, I had a huge espectation on the performance of my new toy.... started with a Billy Joel Blue Ray Concert, and booooommmmm.. what a nice sound... My wife is mad at me because I have been almost all the time in my living room, listening music and watching videos... I made some adjustments to the speakers with the remote control, and so far, for me it is perfect... It may need some sharper adjustments, but nothing...

Yamaha YHT-797 HTIB
I have had my YHT-797 system installed for just less than one month. The installation was fairly easy. Operation of the system is not quite simple enough for my wife. Her new Universal Remote is under the tree awaiting a Christmas morning programming. I have the cable box, the TV, the surround sound receiver and the WIFI DVD player all connected. The system sounds great both in stereo and 5.1 surround. The sound quality remains great at all volume levels. I especially like the powered 10" subwoofer. My only complaint with the system is the receiver operion manual is on CD. I prefer a book so I can sit in front of the system and flip through the pages while I familiarize myself with operations and setup. As I have read in other reviews, the Remote is covered in buttons. I have decided to go with the Logitech Harmony Universal Remote. This will simplify the system. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase, and Amazon delivered it in five days between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Cool, but you should know...
Just got this for Xmas. It's quite nice, wasn't horrible to set up. But...the air play and AV app controller advertising makes it sound like you have wifi built in. Nope. You have to either plug it into your Internet with an actual Ethernet cord OR buy Yamaha's 100 dollar wifi attachment. I wish I'd known that before dropping 700 bucks.
