Polk Audio AM1805 SurroundBar SDA Instant Home Theater (Black)
Legendary Polk Audio sound combines with Polk Digital Logic to make watching TV and movies not only more exiting, but increadibly easy. Using a single SurroundBar loudspeaker and a wireless subwoofer, the SurroundBar SDA Instant Home Theater produces a generous soundstage and rich, full sound. To get started, connect the Surroundbar SDA to your TV and plug in its power cord. Then plug in the wireless subwoofer. Polk Audios patented SDA tehnology and Polk Digital Logic does the rest, bringing spectacular performance and convenience to all of us whose budget is limited but whose desire for great sound is not.

There's an easy way to get great, immersive surround sound pumping from your new flat panel, widescreen HDTV--Polk Audio's SurroundBar Series speakers, which provide single-speaker surround sound from one slim speaker bar. The Polk Audio AM1805 SurroundBar SDA Instant Home Theater requires only a RCA stereo output from a TV, DVD play, or any source--no additional electronics or wires are needed. It even comes with a wireless subwoofer and can "self learn" to work with your existing TV remote control.

The Polk Audio AM1805 SurroundBar SDA Instant Home Theater.

It doesn't take big bucks to enjoy big sound.

The Polk SurroundBar SDA Instant Home Theater is a self-contained powered SurroundBar SDA loudspeaker and companion wireless powered subwoofer. We designed it for anyone who's technologically insecure. And we priced it so it won't add to the national debt. It's the most economical (dare we say smart?) way to upgrade your flat panel's built-in speakers to a much, much higher level of performance and enjoy all the benefits of a three-dimensional sound stage.

Polk Audio AM1805
No complicated audio connections on the rear of the SurroundBar (see larger image).

It connects to your TV in under 5 minutes.

The SurroundBar SDA IHT works with your remote, the one you're already intimately familiar with. It also comes with all the wires you need for hook up--one. There is no complicated setup or anything else to buy. And you don't have to camouflage multiple speakers, because there are no rear speakers or rear speaker wires. Setup is just this easy:

  1. Un-box the speaker bar and wireless subwoofer.
  2. Connect the audio cable (which comes in the box) from your TV to the SurroundBar.
  3. Plug the bar and wireless subwoofer to electrical power.
  4. Set the bar in front of your TV (or mount it to the wall).
  5. Turn it on. You're done!

Polk Digital Logic delivers the drama and the simplicity.

Polk Digital Logic (a combination of Polk's patented SDA technology and proprietary DSP programming) is how our engineers created the IHT's big sonic performance with no complicated setup or calibration. Like all Polk Audio SurroundBars, the Instant Home Theater's stunning surround sound effects are created independent of any room boundaries so it will work as well in your room as it does in our labs. And as with our other surround bars, Polk SDA technology helps maintain a solid center channel for clear, intelligible dialogue. Combined with Polk Digital Logic you can enjoy dramatic imaging, a three-dimensional sound envelope and, of course, Polk's signature sound--warm, with exceptional immediacy, fullness and clarity.

This wireless subwoofer has a kick no matter where you place it.

The SurroundBar SDA Instant Home wireless woofer gives you the flexibility to place the woofer anywhere in your room. Plus you'll never have to run expensive and unsightly line level audio cables all around the room. The subwoofer's small size means you can hide it away behind or under furniture. Your room is refreshingly free of clutter. The subwoofer employs a powerful DSP digital amplifier and Polk's Dynamic Balance Driver Technology for the deep, punchy bass that turns movies, games and TV programs into real gut-pounding thrills.

SDA Surround Sound

What is SDA Surround Sound Technology?

SDA stands for Stereo Dimensional Array, a patented Polk Audio exclusive. When a multi-channel recording is made, sound supposed to be heard at your left ear comes only out of the left speaker. However over a sound system, you hear sound from the left speaker not only in your left ear but also your right ear as well. The dedicated SDA driver produces a SDA signal to control the amount and type of sound the further ear hears. By carefully controlling the SDA signal, SDA Surround Technology allows the sound image to be precisely steered and projected into the room. You'll experience sound effects and instruments coming from all around you, with no physical speakers beside or behind.

Great Sound, No Fuss.
I'll start with my current set up and what my expectations were. I have a 47" Philips LCD TV, all the major gaming systems, and I also use my LCD TV as a computer monitor. I was looking for a speaker system with a subwoofer for around $400. I didn't want to buy a receiver if I didn't have to for my set up. I had researched and heard several soundbar systems before deciding on this one. All of my gaming systems and my laptop connect directly into the TV through HDMI cables. The speakers are connected to the TV through the "TV Out" connection. Overall, I am very, very happy with it.

The soundbar itself is smaller than expected. The mid and high rannge sounds are great. One concern that I had with soundbar systems was the ability to hear dialogue. Many soundbar systems I listened to had muffled dialogue that was difficult to hear at times. This soundbar does not suffer from any of those qualities. Dialogue is easy to hear from all sources.

The subwoofer has very...

Very Nice
I purchased one of these because my husband is an old rocker and his hearing isn't as good as it used to be. He'd given up watching TV on our 46" Samsung LCD because of muddy sound. I don't know whether we blew a speaker (which we've done on every other stereo and car we've owned) or whether it was just the tiny, tinny speakers in the TV. (Time out for pet peeve: We paid a LOT of money for this TV 2 years ago; you'd think they could put decent speakers in it. OK, back in) He was always asking me what people had said. I wasn't sure one of these would 'fix' it, but it did. We pulled it out of the box and plugged one cable into the wall for power and one into the TV for audio (actually 2 together, you know how they do left and right, red and yellow). We turned the TV speakers off and started enjoying TV immediately. Then my son insisted that we had to use the subwoofer. I thought extra noise was part of our problem and didn't want to add anything more. We plugged it into power and placed...
Nice little system but..
It gives a good bang for the buck but there were a couple of issues that I had with it. Firstly, it is very easy to setup and install which is a plus. The wireless sub fits conveniently anywhere in a room and provides a nice bass. Where is the remote? Where are the directions? These things were not in the box. I am guessing the remote wasn't supposed to be there. It took me a few days to figure out that when you turn the tv off and on the sound bar will automatically sense input from the TV and then turn itself on without having to manually press the power button which is nice. But I would have liked to have read that in a manually and not figure it out for myself. Overall I love the simplicity that this system provides and combined with good performance I would recommend it to someone who doesn't want to hassle with a big surround system but wants something a little extra in the sound department.

EDIT: I was able to find directions online that show you how to...

Polk Audio SurroundBar 9000 Instant Home Theater (Black)
This Instant Home Theater is about more than creating sound far beyond what any TV speakers can produce. The 9000 is about transforming your flat panel into an amazing home theater experience. Polk technology and innovation make this possible. For starters, you'll hear superior center channel intelligibility thanks to the Optimized Center Array, a feature that employs all of the bar's drivers. Then, like real component systems, we use the critical 80Hz crossover point for bar and sub to minimize localization of the sub and create the ideal blending. But perhaps most impressive, we've created a component quality sound bar that reproduces true 5.1 channel audio in DTS or Dolby Digital. When you augment those surround formats with our proprietary SDA® Surround Technology, you'll hear why the SurroundBar 9000 IHT is the best sounding bar/subwoofer system. Digital Signal Processing (DSP) This is the most powerful DSP ever incorporated into any of our SurroundBars and is capable of 160MIPS (millions of instructions per second!!). DSP packs an incredible amount of processing power into a small space, controling delay, frequency shaping, crossover points, signal mixing and parametric compression. Dolby Digital & DTS Decoding both optical inputs can decode and reproduce Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 program material. Many bars can decode 5.1 but can only reproduce it as 2-channel stereo. The SurroundBar 9000 IHT plays back all discrete channels as intended for optimal surround performance and fidelity. Polk's patented SDA surround technology creates a broad, deep and tall sound field that extends along the side walls and overhead with a high degree of specificity. You hear a vivid 5-channel sound field from a single source; no rear speakers or special room characteristics are required.

Worth it
Upgraded from a 3 year old Panasonic 500 sound bar

The sub and the bar are well worth the 800 investment
So far just listening to music to test it out and the sound is fantastic

Happy with the upgrade

POLK AUDIO 9000
Bought the Polk 9000 January 7th, so far no problems looks nice under our tv.
Music sounds great and movies sound excellent.

Watched several movies and the sound can make you jump out of your seat...it is a powerful sound system.

Watched Titanic blueray with DTS master audio with my wife last night and set the Blueray player audio for the same(the sound bar LED was orange for DTS). To our amazement both of us were looking in the corners behind us thinking something hit the walls...how is that possible with a sound bar?

I went to Best Buy and sat in their studio to watch part of a movie - no doubt their system had more surround and I'm sure it's louder, but for this price and simplicity we have no regrets.
Very good (with caveats)
Pros: Easy set up, very good quality sound (optical input), more than loud enough for small to medium rooms.

Cons: Do not expect 5 channel sound from this (or possibly any) sound/surround bar, no HDMI input, hissing noise from analog input, small amount of glue where grill was attached was evident.

This was bought for a living room. Its primary purpose was to allow me to watch movies and listen to music without too many wires everywhere. Set up was straightforward. Mounting on the wall was a bit tough since I did it alone and had a hard time aligning the key hole slots with the screws on the wall. Ended up scratching the back of the bar quite a bit. Bottom line, get some help if you are going to wall mount this. That said, hookup and use were beyond easy. Subwoofer synced up with bar easily and functioned without any drops or lags. Did not program the bar for use with my TV remote.
I tried listening first on my ipod classic hooked up via the mini RCA...

Great soundbar but...
I've had the Polk IHT 6000 Soundbar for a week now and it has been an interesting experience.

I got a new 60 inch Sony LED-LCD TV and was looking to have sound to match. My old sound system was really great with a Yamaha AV Receiver, 3 Infinity speakers in front, 2 JBL surround speakers, and a 10 inch Polk Subwoofer. The sound from that system was awesome, but the wires and speakers everywhere was too much for me anymore, and with the new big TV I no longer had room for the receiver.

I went looking for a soundbar and tried several. Sony, Vizio, and Polk. I tried the Vizio since it was the only soundbar out there with separate rear channels and a wireless sub. It was great looking and great in terms of functionality, but the sound was awful. Muddy, nondistinct, just all around bad. The Sony was OK, but a little tinny and I didn't like that you had to wire everything to the sub first and then to the soundbar... I was trying to get rid of wires. Then I got...

One of the best entry level soundbars out there
First I'll start off by making a statement I'm sure has been beaten into the ground in reference to soundbars. This is not a replacement for a true surround system. That being said, the 6000 is pretty darn close. My setup is a Bluray player connected optically, and my HTPC, 360 and Wii running analog out through the TV....I'll explain why.

The one issue I have is with the optical input. The 6000 has a built in Dolby Digital decoder BUT, and this is a big but...it does not have the ability to decode Dolby True HD or any DTS soundtrack. So assuming you have your Bluray player connected to the 6000 via optical, pop in The Walking Dead or the Back To The Future trilogy. You will be greeted to...silence. To fix this you will either have to pick an appropriate sound format using he disc menu (usually a 2ch DD signal is an option), or do what I did....set up any DTS soundtrack to default to 2ch PCM using the BR players setup menu. Its an easy fix but really defeats the purpose of...
Great Add-On!
After installing a 60" Samsung LED-LCD TV, I was disappointed with the TV speakers. My TV is mounted on the wall with no visible wires, so I was looking for a self-contained, amplified speaker system that would improve the audio experience. This unit is exactly what I wanted: easy installation with just power and optical audio hook-up, easy mounting under the TV to conceal the wires, and a wireless sub-woofer that you just need to plug in for power (anywhere in the room up to 75 feet away from the sound bar). The sound is fantastic and the sub-woofer produces the lows that were non-existent with the standard TV speakers. This is a 3.1 system that simulates 5.1, but it is a great compromise to the higher end units that really require a separate amplifier. Many of the less expensive units were 2.1 and did not put out the same power - this unit produces more than enough volume for a large room. My only complaint is that I wish there was a similar model 50+" wide for the larger TVs,...
