Great Speakers At A Great Price!
Purchased and Received these speakers just a couple days ago. The free shipping was great considering the weight of the speakers.

They are great! No complaints here. I was upgrading from my original aiwa speakers (made by sony) in my home entertainment system. The difference is amazing. Highs mids and lows are all great. I always recommend a powered sub woofer, I do have one. However, if you get these speakers you can get by without one.

My listening interests are varied. I have listened to Kiss, ELO, The Hollies, Peter Frampton, Supertramp and some classical on these speakers so far. I have also viewed a couple movies using them. All sounded great. "Do You, (Feel Like I Do) sounded GREAT! All the ELO was crisp, clean and clear. The only "booming," as mentioned in the other review, that I heard was while listening to "Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress" by the Hollies. However, it did appear to be a bass sound that was appropriate with the song, not...

just GOOD. The SSF-6000 sound better
UPDATE: after running these for just over a year - lets clear up alot of the ASTOUNDING reviews. Realize that to get the best sound out of any speaker does not begin with the speaker itself but with the amp/receiver that pushes them. I would NOT buy these to plug into some home theater kit bundle receiver - that wont cut, even just on the power rating alone. One of the main reasons why I wrote a favorable review is due to the fact that the Sony's are connected to Yamaha's highest - rated receiver which pushes a clean 140w x channel. Thus, my review may not be a typical review of what to expect in sound quality. That said, the Sony's do an incredible job managing sound in their application as a part of my 7.1 setup, much of that can be chalked up to a quality amp which makes the 7000's sound so much better.

Cut to the chase: these speakers require a heck of a lot of EQ'ing (and power) to sound GOOD. You most likely will need a subwoofer to assist in most situations. They...
Best bang for your buck
I bought these because a consumer magazine rated the performance of this model's predecessor a "best buy" in floor standing speakers. They even beat out some very expensive Polks for sonic accuracy. After getting them installed, they didn't disappoint. Excellent highs and more than adequate bass especially considering the price paid.

Nice Mounts... They Get The Job Done!
Although the description lists a select group of speakers this mount will work with, they will actually work with "any" speaker weighing 10 pounds or less, providing the speakers also have a 1/4x20 threaded mounting hole on its back. I used these to mount my Energy 5.1 Take Classic Home Theater System. (very nice, awesome sounding Home Theater speakers also purchased from Amazon)

I'll admit I personally found the $50 price tag for these mounts a bit steep. Granted, the mounts are nicely constructed and get the job done but its hard to justify the price. I was not willing to pay $50 so I originally considered three other mounts that are very similar in design. They would be the:

Best mounts I have used
I have the Definitive Technology Promonitor 1000 these mounts work perfectly. The speakers weigh 8 pounds these mounts hold the speakers like a vise. I would recommend the mounts for any pair of speakers. Definitive Tech has the screw hole for the mounts on the bottom of the speakers why i dont know. Makes the speakers very heavy on top and hard for most mounts to hold them. Like i said not this set they dont move. I went through many mounts before Def Tech came out with these mounts. So i tried them and will be the last mounts i will need. Get them for and speaker you want mounted that weigh more than 5 pounds. You wont regret it.
Strong
These are not flimsy at all and if you torque the main hex pretty well the speaker will not droop at all. I kept checking week after week and my center channel is still pointing up. They seem well engineered and strong all around.

Amazing Sound For An Unbeatable Price
Forget all other audio companies. Sony will always have the highest quality products for the best prices. 3 foot high towers for $50 each??? They must be pretty mediocre right? Wrong. These speakers are wonderful.

They have a full, bright sound and can get as loud as you possibly want (and louder) if you have a decent receiver. There is a great distinction between the tweeter, mid and sub. These are the best speakers I have ever owned.

The only thing wrong with them is if you love extreme, rumbling bass, they might not meet your standards. But a good active sub woofer is a must for any good sound system anyway.

AWESOME SPEAKERS!!!
First, I am an average listener - let me repeat that: I AM AN AVERAGE LISTENER - and I believe that the Sony SSF-5000 floor speakers are very loud, with good crisp highs, strong mids, and the bass response is absolutely great. If you need earth-shaking bass, you need a subwoofer, but these speakers will kick out a fair amount of bass - enough to feel through your floor. There is no distortion that I can hear, even when I have the system cranked up. Speaker connections were easy, even when I used fat 12-gauge oxygen-free copper wires. The black finish is nice. The cloth grills look great. These speakers match all the other Sony speakers in my system. I hope this review helps you.
Great Value
I agree with previous favorable reviews. These speakers may not equal the sound quality of much more expensive models, but they come close enough to make the price difference to step up unreasonable for most people. The following review is intended for those trying to select between Sony models. In January 2008 I bought a pair of Sony SS-B3000 speakers from Amazon and was pleasantly surprised with their sound quality when use with a subwoofer and center channel speaker. I used them as floor standing speakers with homemade stands. Today I received a new pair of SSF-5000 speakers and I've spent over 4 hours doing A/B comparisons with the SS-B3000 units. My conclusion: the SSF-5000 wins out narrowly by placing the tweeters higher (closer to ear level). Otherwise, both excellent pairs of speakers produce similar sound: clear, crisp and with more volume capacity than my 18x30 ft. family room requires. good n' consistent sound,
I'm pretty impressed with this speaker set. For starters, I was concerned that with the low cost they would't be too great sounding but to my wonderful surprise, they are pretty darn good. They put out plenty of clear, equal sound- treb and bass, turning out to be full and nice sounding. I liked the shape because round speakers are just harder to install so, these were an easy cut and in they went. The wiring was a little on the thin side but, I felt like that was fine considering it's not pumping out massive power. Thy're not too heavy, look clean, sound clean and the price was cheap. They were a good buy for me and have been giving me good consistent sound since they were installed.

Another great buy!!!
I like the rectangular shape of these speakers better than the circular shaped ones, I wouldn't say the sound is any different....I have ceiling speakers installed in my study and added these to improve the peek volume. This is my second set of pyle speakers and I think they make great products and their also less expensive than most.
Plan ahead
The speakers sound great, have a nice high range. The bass or low end is also good, but not made to be a sub woofer. I have no problem referring this speaker set, the only thing i can recommend is make sure there are no obstacles like plumbing lines or hvac in the planed installation area since these are wall speakers. I made this mistake, and had to re-configure the layout. Hope this helps.

I Am Impressed
I have had a "total" sound system in my home for more than 10 years - a set of Bose indoor speakers in each of three rooms; a set of Bose outdoor speakers in the eaves over my front door and another set in my outdoor screen room; and a set of Cerwin Vega "bookshelf" speakers in my TV/entertainment room. Just today, I added a set of Polk Audio Atrium 4 speakers to the system in order to pipe sound (satellite TV/DVD/CD)to an arbor swing located about 50 feet from the back of my house. I must say, I am impressed. The Polk Audio Atrium 4s sound every bit as good as the Bose speakers (if not better), and the quality of their construction appears outstanding. As this is the the set which will be most exposed to the elements, I was encouraged by the excellent "weatherproof" specifications and the fit and finish of the Atrium 4s. Only time will tell if they hold up as well as the outdoor speakers I now have, but at a price about $100 cheaper than the least expensive Bose outdoor...

Pleased overall
For $100 these are some pretty good overall outdoor speakers. I had a pair of JBL outdoors that developed some buzzing and pops so I needed a replacement and I went with these. For reference, every other speaker I own (except for a pair in the garage) is JBL, this was my first Polk experience.

Generally speaking they are a solid set of speakers. They give a pretty balanced sound all around but lack a little fullness in the lower mid-range. This is particularly noticeable when playing orchestral type music like film scores or piano heavy music. Going from the lower mids to bass is where they really start to have trouble. For the size of the speaker I certainly wasn't expecting to really "feel" bass but these do drop off noticeably in the lower frequency ranges. If there's something to knock with the Atrium 4's, that's it. With other types of music (country, rock, etc...) those issues aren't as noticeable. With that said they offer a nice high end treble sound that is...
Scary good sound from such tiny things
At $99, these are not the most expensive speakers I've ever bought, and of course not the biggest. At lower volumes you might think they're underpowered. But give them some juice. Everywhere between half-loud to uncomfortably loud you'll be shocked (seriously, shocked) at the clarity of the sound.

went in smooth, sound exceptional, look clean
Correct installation is a MUST when it comes to wiring these in your ceiling so, I got some help with mine. It was actually easier than I thought. The cable provided is thick and durable (very happy about that) because I considered just buying better wire if it wasn't provided... so, thanks to the company. The "dimmer" switch is fantastic, mounts to the wall just like a regular light switch and the speakers sound crisp and clean. All of it being white, it blends in beautifully with the walls and ceiling. I'm very happy the installation turned out easy and that they sound so good.

Put a speaker in your ceiling,
We've had in wall speakers for years, but when my husband found out about this Pyle ceiling speaker kit he got real excited and told me we had to get it. Of course, I pointed to the speakers in the wall and asked why we should get something that we basically already have. He laughed at that point and simply went online to order this kit, telling me I'd understand once it was installed. Now I do. Surround sound isn't surround sound until it completely surrounds you, and that's what the addition of a ceiling speaker does. I would say that this speaker is actually of higher quality than the ones we already have...which means that my husband will probably want to replace the old ones too.

Pleasant but over priced
Summary: A pleasant sounding speaker for back ground listening but over priced and out classed by the competition. Tonality is distorted to produce pleasant sound rather than accurate sound. Bass is loose and wumpy sounding. The 301's can shake the room but only over a limited range of bass frequencies. Direct-reflecting design hurts imaging. The combination of bad imaging, unrealistic tonality and loose bass make them a poor choice for home theater. Fit and finish are only OK for the price.

Background: My roommate has a pair of 301s set up in our living room. I have a more expensive "audiophile" type system set up in the side room. Often I think it's hard to get good product reviews off the internet. You either have the people who *hate* the company (pick one) and are out to trash the name or you have people who bought the product and are defending their choice. You rarely have someone who has spent considerable time with the product (not just 15 minute store demo) yet...

Great for some forms of music, good for others
Two things I need to share up front: first, I have widely diverse musical tastes. Second, what I don't know about acoustics would fill multiple volumes of encyclopedias. I tell you this up front so you'll know the perspective this review is written from.

We ordered these speakers after listening to them at a major electronics retailer I don't think Amazon will let me mention by name. Delivery was super quick. Be aware that these are large and heavy by bookshelf speaker standards. Setup was a breeze; I'm using an older JVC CD player/receiver we've had stored for years.

The first music I played on them was a duet Jazz CD from Boney James and Rick Braun. I was just a tad disappointed. Don't get me wrong: sound was full and quite crisp, but the stories about Bose products being heavy on the bass are definitely true.

The second CD was a greatest hits collection by BB King. This time the speakers KICKED A**. The sound was powerful yet absolutely...
An Outstanding Bookshelf Speaker at Any Price
The reviewer below identifying himself as "An Electronics Fan" obviously has a deep bias against Bose. His multiple reviews about Bose products--here and elsewhere--are transparently motivated by some animus against Bose. Was he fired by Bose? Did a member of the Bose family reject his romantic advances? Did a Bose executive accidentally run over his cat? Did he drop a Bose speaker on his foot and hurt his toe? The true motivation for this guy's negative reviews would be fun to know. In the meantime, what we do know is that he has no credibility, and his reviews (two here, others elsewhere for other Bose products; he's made maligning Bose his life's work, apparently)) should disregarded.

Nice little speaker, but mounting is tricky
I'm using the speakers as rear surround speakers, and as such they seem to sound fine though this is not exactly a demanding application.

They are small and I find them unobtrusive.

Overall I like the speaker, but I wasn't totally happy with the mounting system for a couple of reasons:

Firstly, the threaded bushing on the back of the speaker that the mount screws into is not secured well to the speaker. There is a notice in the package warning about this, you must be very careful not to put too much stress on the bushing or it will come out of the speaker. This is poor design; they should fix it, not just include a warning notice!

Secondly, the mount that comes with this speaker is a generic 3rd party product, not specifically designed for this speaker. Two different length screws are provided for attaching the mount to the speaker, but the short screw is too short and the long screw is too long. I had to cut the longer screw down to...
Great surround speakers!
Great speakers for rear/rear back surround. Did not have any idea what speakers to get for 7.1 surround. Was going to get same brand speakers as fronts and center. Was amazed at quality for price. Xbox comes alive with these bad boys. Movies too. Am completely satisfied. Well, wish they swiveled down as well as side to side, but come on for this price. Forget about it. Buy'em. U won't regret. Got the new onkyo 7.2 to run'em. Like buttah.

For the money you can't beat them.
The livingroom in our new home just doesn't have a place for free-standing speakers due to the floorplan (very open to the rest of the house, with a fireplace in the front corner). This ruled out using my existing (high-end) theater speakers (large towers).

I went to the local big-box store, and the only set of in-wall speakers they had that I thought were worth buying were a set of Klipsch that came in at $600 per set. I almost went for them, but after measuring I found they were about 2" too wide for where I needed to install one of them. The $300 Infinity set sounded horrible. They didn't sell Polk Audio or Boston Acoustic, which was actually what I wanted to look at.

So ... I figured at $140 from Amazon, the RC65i's were worth a shot. I'm glad I did - price vs. performance these are an excellent set of speakers. Decent dynamic range, and actually a surprising amount of bass if you don't have a subwoofer (though I recommend having one - you can only get so...

Excellent Speakers!!
I purchased a pair of these in-walls for a pool table/game room area I am building in the basement. My receiver is an Onkyo 805 7.1 home theater system and these will serve as stereo/audio part for only that room. I have never owned Polks or in wall speakers for that matter and listened to them at the big box store before purchasing these through Amazon. I was really impressed at the audio quality. I also didn't want floor standing speakers, but didn't want to sacrifice audio quality either so these speakers filled the bill.
No back boxes are necessary, the speaker is designed as an "infinite
baffle" type and only requires that the front and rear moving sound wave
are isolated from each other. Polk recommends to maximize the sound quality, you place a modest amount of a sound absorbing material, such as Polyfil (a synthetic cotton-like material found at craft/fabric stores) inside the cavity before installing the speakers. What a great buy!
Super easy to put in and fantastic sound. Followed everyone's advice and stuffed the cavity with insulation....taped the wall with Scotch blue painters tape..and scored the paper of the drywall with a razor before cutting with a small drywall saw!

Best bookshelf speakers for less than $150/pr
I ordered these from another online vendor a couple years ago to use as side and rear surround speakers in a 7.1 channel setup. I also ordered the NS-777s floor standing towers + the NS-C444 center channel. These are very nice speakers but you need to break them in for a long time. These speakers have a bass reflex design eg they're ported. These speakers are also known to have a slightly recessed mid frequency output, but overall they sound very good for the money. They are perfect for home theater applications. They are clear with music but again the mids are slightly recessed. The highs from these speakers are very strong and metallic because it uses an aluminum dome tweeter. They sound similar to the titanium domes. The highs are not soft/smooth like silk/fabric domes. The metal dome coupled to the integrated waveguide disperses the highs very well though. A working mans pleasure!
Do you have a BMW or shop in Birmingham Michigan? If yes, you can afford to waste big money getting that bigger speaker name. Five percent more listening pleasure for 200% more money. Go for it! For the working man... these beauties are a rare find. I love these speakers...with the sub woofer. The price, quality, reviews, listening experience grabbed me. I love it when I can clearly hear separation left, right or center (NS-444 displaying excellent musical separation. I sit in my chair and squirm like a kid. Hey, I'm 61. The quality is there. Great sounding speakers!
I was Impressed with the sound that these speakers produced in my small living room. At 100/120 RMS, these will run circles around any BOSE! Keep in mind that this is a Mid to Hi-range Speaker, so for the Low range, you will need a Sub. (If you use these for your front speakers.)

In addition, the NS-555 and -777 is essentually the same as the -333(given, larger enclosure) with 2 low-range speakers (with seperate +/- Posts).

For cinema it may be best to buy 2 or 3 pair for a 6/7 channel reciever and a Sub woofer, than to spend money on the (2)555 or (2)777.

Really Fine Sounding Speakers - And Well-Reviewed in STEREOPHILE!!
I received these Dayton B652 6-1/2" 2-Way Bookshelf Speaker Pair speakers recently and I have played them for many hours. The amplifier I used mostly is the Dayton DTA-1 Class T Digital Amplifier 15 WPC which works beautifully with them; this versatile and excellent amplifier can be powered by AC or by batteries. (I can also highly recommend the Dayton Audio DTA-100a Class-T Digital Amplifier 50 WPC, which, though somewhat more expensive, is more powerful - no battery operation though.)

I am currently using this Stanton S.300 Tabletop CD Player with MP3 Compatibility as my source and I have played a large number of classical CDs.

The sound is quite amazing for such inexpensive...
Great value, great sound!
I purchased these speakers because a) I've heard good stuff about Dayton, and b) they're just $25! Although they're 8ohm speakers, I'm running them from a 6ohm bookshelf system receiver. Compared to the system's original speakers (that are about 6 years old), these Dayton's sound great. A much cleaner sound, with much more distinct highs. There isn't quite as much bass, but it's tight and punchy, and is plenty for a small room or at a desk. The boxes aren't ported, so if you felt like dabbling for a bit more bass, that might be a way to go. They aren't rated for quite as much power as my system puts out, but I have not gotten any distortion from the speakers (probably because of their higher resistance), and I've taken them quite loud. So, for a dorm room, a basement, your garage, these are great speakers. They handle power, they sound great, and above all else, are cheap! Solid construction, too. Thick fiberboard with damping fiber in the cabinet for a good, tight...

great exterior, shoddy interior
Made purchase of these NS-6490's on clearance from the 'shack in fall 2009 and I'm glad I did. Probably not worth current retail prices but grab them on markdown if you can. The exterior is beautiful even with the glaring white woofers. The speaker has the required heft to dampen the 8" woofer, and the range should be smooth with the choice of provided driver sizes. Unfortunately we consumers just won't know what it is capable of until it gets a decent crossover. Inside you will find no acoustic fill, which by itself isn't unexpected in a design at this pricepoint. However, there is no effective crossover. there are instead 2 capacitors acting as bass blockers for the 4" mid and the tweeter glued to the back of the terminal cup and the 8" woofer runs full range. In a larger woofer this may not be a problem as the voice coil simply wouldn't drive higher frequencies; here it is. Budget for acoustic fill and a proper crossover, or run a new terminal cup and bi-amp with eq's. I didn't...

So I'm on a budget, (like most these days) and my 15 year old Yamaha (NS-A635) bookshelf speakers have served me well, but have had it. What do I do??? Excellent Rears for 5.1 or 7.1 setups
Produces lots full sound for rear channels. Can be mounted in most any position to give that custom installed look. Had expensive B&W 805's for rears and decied to move the 805s to front for another seperate room setup. Put these in place and did not notice a change at all. Thundering choppers flying from front to rear still sound great. Also handles the subtle sounds of crickets in the outdoor scenes very cleanly. No need to spend more on super expensive rears -- save the money for your center speaker or a big subwoofer. Great performance and good value.

Great Speakers!
Being audio-conscious, albeit not an audiophile, I bought these to replace my old JBL sound effects speakers as my front left and rights. The tweeters on both drivers broke, and I needed something new. Since I needed speakers in a pinch I went to the old two stores in my area: CircuitCity and the Bose outlet. The Bose outlet had their 301s for $219, which was a decent price. Because my CircuitCity was closing, these were discounted to only $100. I bought these impulsively (knowing that Polk is a good name in audio) and I have been impressed. The mids are not as clear as in my JBLs, but the treble is much more audible than my JBLs were (when the tweeters worked). Although they're wall-mount speakers, I use them with the included stand things and they work just fine. If you're looking for some speaker replacements and want something good, small, and relatively inexpensive then these speakers are a great choice.
The Best sound On Earth!
PROS:
These are some great sounding speakers. More than great, they sound spectacular. It has a very clear, full, rich complete sound that can sound as awesome as the front and surround sound speakers. I chose the white speakers and the color blends perfectly well with a nice limited edition picture resting between them. You would not believe how well they look on the wall over my sofa and how many compliments I get on their appearance. The speakers were easy to put up and the picture on the net does not do them justice. I can put these speakers anywhere that I want to. I can corner them between two walls, mount them on a stand or just sit them on a table. How sweet is that? Also, the shape of each speaker affords an easy blend into any decor. I know. I'm a woman.

CONS:
Barring someone receiving a lemon, I don't think that anyone could find a legitimate con to these, or for that matter, any of the Polk speakers in this series.

Better than expected
I received my four Sanus System speaker stands and was pleasantly surprised by their quality, and by how easy they were to assemble. They fit and hold my Klipsch Quintet speakers perfectly -- with the brackets specially designed for this model of speakers. The stands also come with several plates that fit a variety of speaker types.

The stands are easy to adjust up and down, and are not top heavy with my speakers. While the black coating is very nice, it is loosely bonded to the metal. I dropped a screw on the floor plate and it nicked the paint to bare metal.

By the way, I found the instructions easy to understand and follow, so perhaps they have been updated.

Here's a tip during assembly, especially if you are using 14-ga lamp cord: insert the cord into the tubes before you screw the tube to the floor plate.

Final comment: great stands at a great price. Highly recommended.

Overall Good Stands
I purchased two pairs of these stands to mount my Sapphire Speakers that I purchased from Tweeter. After a trip to the hardware store to buy some nuts, bolts and washers I was able to mount my surround speakers with the included L-Brackets. Threading the wire through the poles was very easy. The finish is a "crackle" paint and they look good with my high gloss "piano black" speakers.

On the downside, my front speakers are taller and the L-Brackets were too short so I had to make an extension so they were long enough to mount to the speakers. I am lucky I have access to a metal shop so making the extension was easily done. Since I mounted the extension to the back of the L-Bracket it really isn't visible, but I would have preferred a properly sized bracket. Also one of the stands was damaged so I had to repair a threaded hole so it would assemble to the bracket. This required another trip to the hardware store to purchase a tap.

Good stands
I bought these speaker stands for use with an Infinity TS-1100 system. They work very well with these speakers (there were no reviews beforehand). There were a few minor issues with trying to get 14 gauge speaker wire through the holes so I left the wires hanging (not very appealing to the eyes but it works).
