Really Fine Sounding Speakers - And Well-Reviewed in STEREOPHILE!!
I received these Dayton B652 6-1/2" 2-Way Bookshelf Speaker Pair speakers recently and I have played them for many hours. The amplifier I used mostly is the Dayton DTA-1 Class T Digital Amplifier 15 WPC which works beautifully with them; this versatile and excellent amplifier can be powered by AC or by batteries. (I can also highly recommend the Dayton Audio DTA-100a Class-T Digital Amplifier 50 WPC, which, though somewhat more expensive, is more powerful - no battery operation though.)
I am currently using this Stanton S.300 Tabletop CD Player with MP3 Compatibility as my source and I have played a large number of classical CDs.

Great value, great sound!
I purchased these speakers because a) I've heard good stuff about Dayton, and b) they're just $25! Although they're 8ohm speakers, I'm running them from a 6ohm bookshelf system receiver. Compared to the system's original speakers (that are about 6 years old), these Dayton's sound great. A much cleaner sound, with much more distinct highs. There isn't quite as much bass, but it's tight and punchy, and is plenty for a small room or at a desk. The boxes aren't ported, so if you felt like dabbling for a bit more bass, that might be a way to go. They aren't rated for quite as much power as my system puts out, but I have not gotten any distortion from the speakers (probably because of their higher resistance), and I've taken them quite loud. So, for a dorm room, a basement, your garage, these are great speakers. They handle power, they sound great, and above all else, are cheap! Solid construction, too.
